Reducing Caffeine

May 23rd, 2007 at 03:15 pm

I drink too much caffeinated soda; I'm starting to see the effects when I lie awake at bedtime. I'm going to try to cut back to one can a day (with some exceptions for "treats"), and whenever I resist the urge for another can, I'm rewarding myself by adding the money saved to my $20 Challenge account. (I usually spend 18.3 cents per can when I buy it on sale.)

I also saved $30 last week by not replacing a part on a piece of equipment we regularly use -- we're working around that piece. With that and my ongoing savings from previous entries (I'm still writing occasionally and making cards), I've saved $118.84 so far.

I don't know if you drink tea or not, but that certainly does help when you are reducing caffeine. You are listening now to someone who used to have 3 cups of joe in the morning, iced tea, cokes in the afternoon, and coffee after dinner. Now, I have 1 cup of coffee in the morning, occassionally a cup of tea in the aftenoon, mostly drink water through out the day. Also, if we go to a fast food, I ask for water. I can drink water with my popcorn or pizza. Now, that was hard but after a while you really do get used to it. I will occassionally have a soda, but it's rare. It is doable. I heard one alternative doctor say that you need to drink 30 glasses of water to dilute the effects of a can of soda.

I agree with Aleta, during law school I had a coffee habit bad (we're talking 20 cups a day kind of thing) tea and water help a lot, in cutting down. Make sure that you are substituting other sugar free sweet things as well, because you also maybe addicted to the sugar in the soda, sugar addictions are hard to break too but there is some really tasty sugar free stuff out there.. Good luck Smile

Aleta -- Thanks for the encouragement! I wish I did like tea; I've been drinking a lot of water, but I sometimes want something with more of a taste to it.

Fairy -- I probably am addicted to sugar, and I've been eating too much of it lately. Thanks for the tip!
